Join ICOM – Be Part of the Global Museum Community
Become part of an international network of over 50,000 museum professionals and institutions from 138 countries and territories. As an ICOM member, you’ll gain access to unique professional development opportunities, international collaborations, and a wide range of resources tailored to support and strengthen the museum sector.
The annual membership fee for 2025 are as follows:
€75 for individuals (inc. a service fee)
€40 for students (non-voting) and retirees (inc. a service fee)
Corporate and supporting member rates available upon request. Kindly note that ICOM membership runs on the calendar year from the January 1st to December 31st.

Whether you are an individual, student, or represent an institution, ICOM membership offers:
Free or discounted entry to many museums around the world with the ICOM membership card (at the discretion of the individual institutions)
Access to ICOM’s international and Malta’s network of museum professionals
Access to ICOM news, online publications, tools, learning, training, and professional standards.
Opportunities to join and participate in ICOM’s international committees (subject specialist groups), working groups, and conferences
Eligibility for ICOM’s grants, bursaries, and participation in global museum initiatives
Regular communication from ICOM Malta bringing you news, opportunities, and resources, while giving you the chance to share your views on preserving and promoting natural and cultural heritage, both local and international
Access to events and workshops organised by ICOM Malta which are exclusive to members
Institutions joining ICOM receive multiple membership cards that can be used by staff, as well as access to an international museum community where potential partnerships and programmes can be developed.
Membership Requirements
You can join ICOM as:
an individual member if you are a working or retired museum professional or if you provide services, knowledge and expertise for museums, as your main professional activity;
an institutional member if you represent a museum or another institution that complies with the definition of a museum; (see ICOM Internal Rules, Article 2.1.2. Institutions qualifying as museums)
a student member if you are enrolled in a museum-related academic programme, broadly defined;
a supporting member if you, or your institution, provide substantial assistance to ICOM both financially and otherwise, due to an interest in museums.
Who is not eligible to join?
Any organisations or individuals participating directly or indirectly in dealing (buying or selling for profit, including commercial galleries) in art, cultural artefacts, natural or cultural heritage. (as established by ICOM Statutes, Article 4. Membership)
